Adventures of All Sorts

Dear Reader, You must first know that I am yawning excessively as I stare at my computer screen and try to make my thoughts make sense. It's only 8:40pm here as I begin this post. Why am I so tired? Well, I'll get to that. I promise. I think. Maybe. (Also I don't have many new pictures, but I'll post some next time I promise!)
I will start with new school happenings this time. Can I tell you how proud I am of my students? And consequently how bad I feel right now that I don't tell them often enough. Mostly they hear me ask: What subjects have you  finished? Where is your homework?  Why aren't you working? What were you thinking when you answered this question? They also here me say: Get back to work. Please, don't interrupt me again. Yes, you have to do Spanish today. Stop yelling or I'm banishing you to the outside.  I'll take some time to brag about them here and I promise I'll tell them all this in the morning. They all have been working hard and have been very focused recently. I thought when we picked up Spanish, they would start getting done later, but for the most part, we've just been starting school earlier and getting done about the same time. All three of them are pretty flexible. They frequently have to wait for me to finish with another child before receiving help and they're pretty chill about that. They're all improving so much I can't believe it! Quentin is getting so good at reading and he picks up new math concepts IN HIS SLEEP. Seriously. Morgan is enthusiastically reading a condensed version of "Red Badge of Courage" and LOOKING FORWARD to writing a book report. Emma is learning Spanish grammar like a prodigy and really coming along in her Spanish conversational abilities. They're just plain awesome. Ah yes, let me not forget Jenny! Have you ever worked with a student who never complained and always "listened"? That's Jenny. I feel lucky to be her teacher, if just for a few months. She learns new things very quickly. We started division and Spanish verb conjugation this week. She's doing great!  Sometimes I feel like I've been pulled in 4 different directions (I have 4 students...coinkydink? Nope) for 4 straight hours and I just can't bear to look at one more math problem or I will scream. OK, truthfully? I feel this way most days, but that's fine. I'm working hard and I play in the afternoons :D.
Now let me share some of the uber fun things I've been up to. Let's start with 2 weeks ago. We had a great girls night a couple weekends ago. First, we all played Frisbee, then we had delicious lasagna, then we played hilarious games and watched "The Help". The next couple days after that I spent with my pastor's kids. I'm a super fun babysitter :D . We went and checked out the random animals at La Granja (don't.ask.), tried on some REALLY ugly clothes at Mendell's, had grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner, had some friends over and played spoons, made Chai, Skyped with Ashley, made a fire and stayed up until 2am. Good times. That Sunday, I did children's church with some awesome helpers. I taught on "El tentación de Jesús". We sang some songs, watched a video, and basically learned some awesome truths from that passage. God is all we need. He will provide. I will not tempt my God and I will serve only Him.
 This most recent weekend, I got to go hiking and swimming with a bunch of my friends and some really fun kids! It was a short but STEEP hike down to the river where we spent several hours enjoying a very beautiful waterfall and swimming hole. There was lots of sunshine and laughter. Definitely my idea of a great Saturday! (I might have gotten a little sunburn - in February...yeah cold friends and family...let that sink in :P ) I also spend the night with my "Destino friends". We went out for baleadas, had some good talks and watched a movie. On Sunday morning a fantastic group effort created some very delicious crepes filled with cooked apples and peaches. Sunday service was great. The biggest thing I learned was that when Jesus said "Come follow me" He didn't say "then you will become fishers of men". He said "Then I will make you fishers of men. (Matthew 4). He's doing a work in and through us. Not by our strength but by His strength.

Also I have some really big news (which a bunch of you already know)!!! I found out over the weekend that I was accepted to teach at Destino del Reino!!!! That means, even though I will be back in the USA for the summer, I'll be returning to Siguatepeque mid-August. God has given me a heart for this city and for working with this school and I am really excited!!

Lastly, I've been here almost 6 months! Isn't that crazy? I feel like the next 3 months are going to fly by. Can you please pray for me not to miss what God has for me in the coming months? I know He has more to teach me before my time with Mission Nanny is done. Love you all!

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi:

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury,pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.
